The Chap Who Thinks A Spade's A Spade | 1979

(1979) 16mm. B&W, 15 minutes
First shown at the Electric Cinema, Notting Hillgate.

A visitor to an agricultural. show finds that each of the exhibits touches off the fragments of a personal mythology-the film is inspired by a collection of early gardening magazines.

"Spade uses the very english environment of an agricultural show for its dogged analysis of man's links with an uneasily apocalyptic natural world. Dividing lines between humans, animals and vegetables vanish, and the shriek of the mandrake becomes the sharp shock of human pain."
(Robert Murphy) TIME OUT June 18-24 1984.
